Sara Norman is the Communications Manager for both the Fastest Path to Zero Initiative and the Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences Department at the University of Michigan. In her role at Fastest Path, Sara is responsible for writing, editing, and overseeing the production of a diverse array of content, including press releases, articles, and social media updates. She plays a key role in strategic communications planning, crafting comprehensive strategies that align with the Initiative’s mission to advance nuclear energy as a solution to climate change. Sara crafts messaging that effectively communicates the Initiative’s goals, research findings, and collaborative efforts to a wide range of audiences, including policymakers, researchers, community leaders, and the general public.

Sara is also responsible for managing and enhancing the Initiative’s digital presence, ensuring that all content is consistent with the brand and messaging guidelines and is both engaging and accessible. Her role extends to media relations, where she builds and maintains relationships with journalists to secure coverage for the Initiative’s work. She also assists in the planning of conferences, symposiums, and workshops, where she develops and executes promotional strategies to maximize attendance and engagement while creating and distributing event invitations, promotional emails, social media posts, and other outreach materials targeted at key audiences.

In addition to her communications responsibilities, Sara acts as the Fastest Path UX/UI designer and works closely with the technical team to design and improve user interfaces for decision-support tools. Her work in this area is characterized by a commitment to making these tools intuitive and inclusive, reflecting the Initiative’s dedication to participatory research and equitable deployment of nuclear infrastructure. Sara’s dedication to advancing equity and justice within the nuclear sector is informed by her deep understanding of historical and current nuclear equity issues, and she is committed to ensuring that community voices are integral to the decision-making process.
